The Great Big Am Dram Lockdown Singing Project

Since we can't get together and perform at the moment, St Albans Musical Theatre Company has put together a singing project for everyone to be involved in. And we're going big! We are inviting members of ALL local amateur theatre companies to take part. During this time of uncertainty, we don't know when live theatre will be back and when it does return, who knows what it will look like. Lots of local companies have put plans on hold, cancelled or postponed shows that we’ve been rehearsing and paused weekly meet-ups and SAMTC want to do something to raise awareness of how important local theatre is! We also hope that by creating this video we will raise vital funds for local theatres and local theatre groups and give the am dram theatre community a chance to come together and do what we love!

We would like to invite members of Panda to be part of a virtual performance of "Sunday" from Stephen Sondheim's Sunday in the Park with George. All participants will be asked to learn a vocal line, record it, film themselves singing it and send it in. Vocal lines will then be mixed together and films will be edited and we will create a lockdown virtual performance featuring everyone! Members of 25 local societies are being invited to take part so the finished video will represent amateur theatre across the area!

How Do I Take Part?

If you'd like to be part of this exciting project please fill out the form

What Happens Next?

Once we've received all the forms we will send out music and instructions. You will receive digital sheet music, an audio track of your line and instructions on how to film and record yourself.

·         I've never done anything like this! I'm too nervous to take part!

Don't be nervous! This project is for anyone with a love for musical theatre. You'll have plenty of time to listen and learn your line.

·         I'm not very tech savvy. How can I take part?

Don't worry! We will send out instructions on how to record yourself with several options. If you have a phone and some headphones you'd be surprised at how easy it is to record yourself - so don't worry!

·         I don't know the song. Can I still take part?

Yes of course! We'll give everyone plenty of time to familiarise themselves with the music before recording.

·         How much time will I have to do my recording?

Once we've received all the forms and know who is taking part you'll be sent everything you need. You'll then have two weeks to learn your part and get your recording into us. We want to give everyone plenty of time to take part!

·         I have more questions, who can I ask?

The project is being coordinated by Elise Betts from St Albans Musical Theatre and you can contact her (  She'll be more than happy to answer any questions you have!

We hope you are as excited about this project as we are! This is a worrying time for the theatre industry so let's come together and support something we all love!

Next step:

If you would like your company to be involved please let your members know. Attached is a photo, which can be accompanied by the above text to let your members know about the project. All your members need to do is complete the google form (link above) so we’d be really grateful if you’d share this with your members and post on your company Facebook/Instagram/WhatsApp groups. We will share the finished video with all companies who have taken part for you to share on your social media channels/websites. We want as many am-drammers involved as possible!

Looking forward to hearing from you!
