Who We Are

We are a friendly amateur dramatic group with a family feel that performs  musicals.

A main show in early March each year and sometimes a small cast show in July.

We also have a concert group who perform for local organisations both in summer and leading up to Christmas.

Our Story

Are you sitting comfortably?  Then let us begin.

Once upon a time there was a lady living in Chorleywood who had produced many shows for numerous societies and in lots of different venues.  However, there was one show which had escaped her; this was The King And I.  Deciding that something must be done, she put advertisements in the local newspapers asking anyone interested to attend a meeting at her house one day in April 1988.

This lady, sadly now deceased, was called Betty Waddy.  She later became the founder president of Panda Players.  Betty was a great animal lover and decided that all profits from the new Panda Players’ first production in 1990, The King And I, were to go to the World Wildlife Fund (later the World Wide Fund for Nature), so the name and logo for Panda Players came about because of this connection to the WWF.  It is to the credit of everyone associated with this first production that a cheque for the sum of £1,400 was presented to the WWF.

Buoyed by this success, many members voted that the company should stay together to do another show.  Now, thirty years later, Panda Players have been performing almost annually at The Elgiva Theatre in Chesham. They have also formed a Concert Group for members to further their interest in singing and they perform for local organisations, retirement homes, dinners etc.

We are always looking for new members for our annual musical productions, either on stage or behind the scenes and also members who wish to be involved in our Concert Group, or both, so if you are interested and want to join a friendly society please - - -
